Because adult social services around the country is a joke. The workers, which there aren't many, have little to no power to intervene.

Not “where they had sex” where she was RAPED, you useless, impotent, waste of oxygen.
I don’t think it’s suggesting that the people supporting the bill are lying. It’s saying that the people who were protesting the bill were saying that if the bill passed, then men could go into women’s restrooms and rape them. And this happening, even though the bill didn’t pass shows that the bill wouldn’t cause it…
Ah I see. You were thinking I meant the people supporting the bill were lying. I didn’t write it clearly so I will apologize for that. I meant the opponents of the bill were lying. I still think these two incidents are more related than you want to believe.
So? Why is that relevant for the cop to mention publicly? He could say “the encounter did not seem to be violent” which would imply that they aren’t looking for a possibly violent assailant. To say that the victim didn’t look unwilling doesn’t give the public any relevant information about the suspect they are looking…
Legally, it doean’t matter if she didn’t seem super unwilling because according to the law she is too young (12 years old) to consent. So his little aside had NOTHING to do with the law.
No, because, legally, even if she was begging him to take her into the bathroom, it would still be rape. So, his comment has nothing at all to do with the legality of it. It’s all about his refusal to call it rape without being wishy washy about it.
I agree, and I never expect much of an emotional reaction from either law enforcement or medical professionals (which is why the “cavalier attitude” or whatever of PP employees accusation is crap. That’s how doctors talk!) but saying something akin of “she looked like she was into it” is really irrelevant and also…
If that were true then they needn’t have mentioned that she wasn’t “necessarily all that unwilling.” In terms of legality, she was raped.
Houston is KILLIN’ IT today.
I can't tell if it's denial in the face of unspeakable horror or if they just think people with vaginas are not to be trusted.
Why is law enforcement incapable of just expressing outrage? Why can’t they ever be like “We are going to find the person who committed this horrible act and bring them to justice?” instead of saying stupid shit like “well, she DID go with him” and then trying to soften it with “but she was 12 so even if she wanted…
People don’t want to believe someone they look up to could do something like that. It’s easier to think of rapists as boogeymen and not your life-long friend, but the truth is, statistically, everyone knows at least one rapist. It’s how Cosby got away with it for so long, and still, there are people out there who…
Exactly: what is she GAINING through this? The inability to find housing Public shunning and her entire life put under a microscope? Great, sign me up! Holy shit. And yeah, I’m sure he was a great community volunteer; that’s how you get access to the vulnerable. This isn’t news to anyone with half a brain.
That’s the part that got me and I couldn’t write any more about it. Like how could someone defend this dude when he didn’t just rape a child but then brought his adult son into it?
“Paden’s adult son, Anthony, has also been charged with sodomizing the victim. His case is currently pending.”
I feel you and I am so sorry you are going through that. I finally have meds that are working for now. So things are manageable for now.
Well, I’m certainly not a linguist, but I think I can pick it out fairly easily. And I see what you mean about “native-like” - I have a friend who is multilingual - born in Germany, married to a French man and living in France, speaks English, and actually works as a translator. I don’t think I’ve EVER seen her make a…
Hahaha that’s too good! Good thing you can speak Dutch and caught onto their tricks !
Yup. It’s called “native-like” speech, and there are known markers but generally you know it when you see it. We call it “native like” to take away the stigma of implying it’s the only acceptable, correct or proper way to write/speak. It’s not. It’s a variety of markers that point to something having been uttered or…
