I'm an atheist, so I don't understand why anyone would deny their nature like this for the church.

With the Mormons, though - faith and social life are very closely intertwined. It's a fact that people who leave the Mormon church sometimes lose a lot, from their closest friends to their family members, because everything is so tied up in the church.
I know a lot of people in the queer community whose lives have been irreparably damaged by intolerant religious people, so while I feel for those who resort to this sort of thing to cope, I have zero qualms about pointing out that the religious beliefs that drive people to do this are absolute bullshit.
The Mormon rules were written in the 19th century. Which makes it even dumber that they doubled down on bigotry.
I don't know which is worse, the unrepentant killer or the man who insists to the end that he meant well.
i need a goddamn vodka.
lol yes god bless the future of every single person who reads this and immediately ricochets into "BUT WHAT ABOUT ME"
So he didn't want to open old wounds by privately apologizing, but a public interview was totally fine?
The first person to defend him or call him "brave" for admitting this will get my special hate cookies free of charge. Go ahead, ask what makes them special.
I'd be a lot happier if he made the announcement and disappeared to do penance. I don't want him in People Magazine or on TV talking about it. 1) if there is genuine concern about opening old wounds for the "only" two other women who were molested then WTF does he think seeing their molester in print and on TV…
I realize the victims are now women, but for some reason, I find it disturbing to me that he refers to them as such. I honestly don't know how he could avoid this (he can't call them children now), but still, it somehow feels like this is part of his justification?
so he starts his apology tour........ won't work
Him & Cosby make me want to move to Mars where there's Spirit & Opportunity :(
He gets that we don't have to make any assumptions beyond what happened, right? That "just" molesting three girls is enough to make us want to send the castration brigade to his dwelling?
He's a predator and possibly a sociopath.
I think you may have missed the point: "good white people" are those who believe their good intentions trump the effects of their biases on black people's experiences. You are being defensive and seem to be asking for credit for not being consciously racist.
Did you even read this? Nobody is asking you to apologize. This isn't about you. The fact that you managed to be offended by this piece is a testament to just how much you don't get it.
You have some work to do. If you think kindness is the limit of what is needed to stop mass death of Black teenagers, you have some work to do. If you think the primary meaning of this essay was that you should apologize for something, or was even about white people, you have some work to do. If you don't understand…
I am a good white person. ... And do you know what? I don't see a need to apologize for it.
