I don’t know how or why this show out-lasted so many other Netflix shows but I’m happy it did. I know it’s basic but it makes me laugh and everyone in it is clearly having a good time..

It’s not a “weird attitude”, it’s pure greed

The editorial staff and movie reviewers were Chicago based union employees, and they were all drummed out of their jobs when the company relocated. Many of the TV reviews were written by freelancers, who voluntarily stopped contributing in solidarity. The relocation was just a ploy to dissolve the union.

My guess is that a lot of the new writers are free lancers who G/O can pay less. I think that’s part of G/O’s general plan from the get-go.

It’s tough for even the really talented people to break out into other things; Kate McKinnon has done movies, but nothing huge, and she’s doing a Tiger King thing on Peacock right after TK2 proved that people don’t really give a shit anymore about Joe Exotic or Carol. Cecily Strong did, what was it, Schmigadoon? 

Steady gig. Pays reasonably well. You’re famous but not so famous that it becomes an inconvenience.  It’s not super reliable as a platform for future success so leaving involves an uncertain future.
