While I recognize that addiction is a disease, there is a large element of choice and personal responsibility in the matter. I have several members of my family that are alcoholics and/or drug addicts and I have other members to cancer. One is a true 100% blame-free disease. Another is not.

One of my friends, a graduate student, is safety-pinning patches to a tweed jacket and going as "The Tenure Track".

I was just watching a documentary on the chimpanzee. I enjoyed watching the part where mumma chimpanzee put the placenta in a waterproof bag and then blogged about it. AHH NATURE.

So is it normal for a post to have 20 threads and all of them are in the gray?

I have the flu y'all and here is why is am hella mad about it.
I had a sick student come into my office earlier this week. She said she wasn't feeling well, so I asked her nicely to leave. We agreed we would submit early action stuff on Thursday if she was better. Well on Thursday her grandmother called and let us know

Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: Next Generation.

I could use some good vibes and/or adorable animal GIFs/videos. I just got word this past week that surgery is the only option labral tear in the left hip that I will need 3-6 months to fully recover from :(

I am putting together a presentation on "Mary-Sue" characters in modern pop culture, and I need some good relevant examples. I am for sure going to be talking about Bella from the Twilight series as well as Clary from the Mortal Instruments books, but I am drawing a blank for more examples. For TV, I was thinking

I'm going to a party tonight as Frida Kahlo. My sister lent me a long, flower-print dress and I'm adding a shawl and a necklace. It's just a costume of convenience since I already have similar colouring.

My husband announced Thursday night that he was no longer in love with me and wanted to leave. No interest in counseling or anything. He has feelings for someone else, a woman he works with, who's divorcing her husband and has two kids, age 12 and 8. She used to be one of my closest friends. I'm still in shock.

Guys, I just ran a 5k last weekend and I'm really proud of myself. I was the only woman wearing a 2x (that I could see) who ran the whole thing. My time sucked BUT I RAN A 5K!

Authentic cannolis, fresh from an Italian bakery! Traditional frosted birthday cake with ice cream is a close second.

My favorite dessert is french silk pie. So hard to find. So delicious.

TIRAMISU!!! ALL THE TIRAMISU!! Also, a lovely vanilla panna cotta, dusted with espresso powder, topped with a handful of sliced almonds and a chocolate covered esspresso bean. Yummm.

I see your misguided comments and raise you four... "Everything happens for a reason", "This too shall pass", "God has a plan", and "Someday, you'll see what a blessing this was."

Let me add one (actually several, but conveying the same sentiment).

You know what makes for a good marriage? Not being married to an alcoholic dickhead. That helps a lot.

This is what should have happened on Sunday.

I don't think I'm alone when I say: I will not read another Doug Barry article until he addresses what he said in a tone that indicates he knows it is wrong to mock a rape victim. To do it in the first place is questionable. To do it in a feminist space is obscene.

To do it

Doug should be fired from Jezebel.

I'm a little upset that it's not mentioned that Jezebel also messed up in how this was addressed.
