NASCAR is a sponsor-driven sport. Without sponsors, there would be no NASCAR. Really, without sponsors, there would likely be no racing (excluding the customer racing series where the uber-rich go wreck Ferraris, haha). So it makes sense to try to do a playoff system where more sponsors get more TV time, and

Wouldn't adding points for halfway positions be just as convoluted as adding points for leading laps?

Well, you can finish Top 30 in the points and not have a win, but after the Grid is filled with winning teams, they go back to the top of the points from the regular season and add teams without wins from the top down, until the field of 16 is full. So if 8 drivers win, the 8 drivers highest in points without a win

Or natural evolution to keep the sport interesting. Sure, maybe not the favorite of old-school fans, but NASCAR and other motorsports need to do everything they can to attract younger fans. Fans that typically are unable to participate at the youth level due to the expense of racing at anything other than a local

And those drivers that no-showed would be without sponsors and probably black-balled by the rest of the sport. They are moving to 16 teams to encourage more sponsors, not alienate them.

Regular Season - 26 Races

Win a race in the regular season, finish top 30, and attempt to qualify for 26 races, you are in. 16 drivers make the Chase. Race winners fill spots until no more remain, remaining spots filled according to highest rank in regular season points. Wins and points position break ties.

Playoffs -

Very true. I posted this after the ISMA release went out that they were both Awake and Alert, so I just took it as a good sign since it was about 6 hours post accident. Obviously things can change, but I'm hopeful that things are good.

With the update, glad to hear they are both OK. Vicious wreck. Can't remember the last time I saw somebody needing to be cut out of a DP. Weird sight.

I don't like this at all. Just not good.

Sounds like Rooster Teeth got out at the right time.

As a track photographer...nope nope nope.

Eh, if anything, just change the rear axle grease/fluid and put a new box on it. Should be good. Maybe a tire or two.

I don't think Strip Search lost them any money. Or at least, I'd imagine it didn't. It was a Kickstarter stretch goal, and they had a few sponsors (although maybe more so for product prizes).

I hope they do bring that back because that was an awesome show. I'd kickstart for that to happen again in a heartbeat, all

Congrats to Jeff Gordon for being a six-time Championship Owner, haha.

In all seriousness...Good Homestead race, but...eh...I dunno...I'm not necessarily sure if Johnson winning all these championships is good for the sport. He is an excellent face for the sport, don't get me wrong. But...eh...parity is nice

Oh, Nashville...

The track built to replace this gem of NASCAR and short track history. If I remember, they decided the .6 mile short track (Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway) was too small, so the company that owns Dover built Nashville Superspeedway (1.333 miles) to bring racing back to Nashville. They built the track

I guess I got crossed up because I knew Tanner had run WRXC races last year, and I had thought Block had run at least one. But, I guess not.

Other solution: pay for an American crew and a Euro crew haha.

The obvious play would be for WRXC to schedule against the X Games dates if they want to steal big names for championship runs. If you say that the big name drivers that want to gun for the WRXC championship would have to run races there to score points, or run GRC for TV Time....I think it puts Foust, Block, and

I think is GRC could get to a 15-16 event schedule, they could put on a great show all over the place. Or even if they did more double-feature stuff. Who knows.

Yea, their scheduling may have bit them for a lot of people in that situation. They had originally scheduled themselves on top of the second night of GRC racing, and pushed it back to Friday night to avoid that. But then SEMA was wrapping at that point, so maybe people (like yourself) were already on their way home.

The thing GRC has going for it is that it's easy to make it a companion series for a lot of other, bigger events. Obviously since it was an ESPN creation, it gets top billing at the 3-4 Summer X-Games (now if only they did a Winter X Games version...). But Speedway Motorsports Inc has seemed to grabbed on and has
