Where are the stories of shops catching worn belts about to fail, etc? Of course you don't see a lot of stories about do-it-yourselfers screwing up, because who is going to brag about…

These things were damn fast by the standards of the day. In fact, it's still faster than the all new VW GTI, the Ford Focus ST, etc. It ran 0 - 100 MPH in 13.8 seconds, trapped through the quarter @ 102 MPH, and the party didn't end until 153 MPH...

You can get a CoF over that without using any aerodynamic downforce at all, if your suspension geometry is designed to work the tires properly. We see it in FSAE all the time, many other race cars without downforce see a CoF of atleast 1.3 all the time.
