Well it's done for safety and speed - stripped of the excess chassis, the car is much lighter and faster but the tube frame keeps its shape better in impact. But if the car is based on the crash-absorbing chassis, and then you add a rollcage into it, it will be naturally slower due to the added weight than a tube…
