It's not so bad once you get the maintenance in order. It's more expensive that a regular car, but nothing offensively expensive unless you have a major failure of one of the drivetrain components. I've been keeping on budget with my build and it's remarkably reasonable so far.

Expensive to maintain? YES.

I have a beagle right now, and I would not recommend one to a first time dog owner.
