I agree, that perception needs to change. But Rice doesn't need to be that sacrificial lamb, he doesn't deserve that. I bet this is the underlying sentiment with that part of the Ravens community that support him. They feel that over the years, they've got to know him better than that 3 mins at 3am in a casino,

Yeah plus the golden rule too right? I'm so glad everything is so simple!

I understand the stats around DV, but just like you said, we don't really know what the case is with them. Unfortunately, a lot of people have already presumptuously applied those stats to Rice and Janay and drawn conclusions from that, which is no different from generalizing about an individual based on his/her

Yeah I don't agree with that, they're missing the point

Because in SA, culpable homicide doesn't carry a minimum prison sentence like murder does

Problem is it's easier for "humanity" to think in absolutes, we generally more comfortable with mutual exclusivity and can't handle apparent contradictions in incidents of public interest like this.

And that's all good, even though generally in the US, you don't go to prison or have your testicles removed after a first offence when the spouse is uncooperative.

Greg Hardy's situation is definitely worse than Rice, absolutely. DV's a huge problem, and it's bigger than Ray and Janay, but damn it's not right that Ray is the sacrificial lamb here.

It's sad coz I like this blog, it's fun, but when complex issues pop up it devolves into an echo chamber, just like Jezebel

Aaron Hernandez been publicly thuggin since high school. He was nowhere near as likable as Rice

Obviously, the above comment is steeped in ignorance about domestic violence. But if you've been following pro football and Rice for years, you'd get the sense that he doesn't deserve being paraded as the poster boy for domestic violence.

Fuck you too buddy. Thanks for stopping by

You have my permission to go fuck yourself with a cheese grater. Move on to the next current player if that'll get you off. Meanwhile the rest of us that actually watch football will just keep on watching.

Nathan Downer is an asshole though, you can see it in his face. There are ways to tactfully bring up someone's sordid 20 year old past when they're the star guests on your little morning news show. He'd never call Conrad Black a convicted embezzler to his face on the air.

Well I certainly didn't take that away from your initial comment.

Watch it with the names, I'd hate for this to degenerate into some juvenile name calling thread.

Normalization logic or just pointing out hypocrisy? Like seriously, dude did a morally abhorrent thing, details around the incident were cloudy until the 2nd video was released, after which he got the boot. NFL was definitely slow to act but i know if my boss was arrested for domestic violence, he probably wouldn't

Your point?

Fair enough
