As a child growing up in the swamps of Florida, we had posters on the school room walls to help identify the disease-bearing mosquitoes. This was kind of funny since I often had to wear a mask (bandana) just in order to breathe due to the density of mosquitoes. And they expected me to pick out the bad ones? Anyway,

What percent of episodes does this represent? If it’s a very tiny percent, then I suspect they’re just tinkering with things. If it’s more, maybe they are trying to come up with a strategy to get out of this controversy (e.g. claim they are trying to clean things up somehow).

Yes, I am happy that someone created something nice and profited from it.

I agree. This story could have been such a great uplifting piece that someone made good, instead of what it is.

True, but my comment was more about the guidance not being unusual or odd, not that the kids should already know it. It’s sound practice, and it’s good the leadership is providing it.

I don’t blame you.

They would block access to various VPN services. I wasn’t the target really. It was the locals they were trying to block access for, I was just collateral damage as it were.

This is pretty standard procedure isn’t it? I never bring my own computer/phone to China, and always assume anything I do is monitored. Not just China though, this is a good assumption to make for most any foreign travel. Last time I went (pre-pandemic), China was playing whack-a-mole with VPNs, so staying away from

When I tried it at home, the bottle had a green tint. But the laser turned red/orange when shined both through the bottle and when shined directly into the oil. It also stayed green when shined through canola oil (in a clear bottle).

So I tested half of your statement on our current bottle, and the green laser did indeed turn red/orange. Now I have to take the laser to the grocery store and see if I can find inferior oil to test the other half of your statement.

My wife said I have to do this alone.

For us, it is a matter of safety. They are engaging in risky behavior that may impact my family. For example, I have refused to interact with a vax-reluctant family friend. He died of covid on Christmas Eve.

For IXPE, the Italians gave NASA the instrument, Ball Aerospace built the platform, SpaceEx launched the satellite, LASP is providing the MOC, and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center is overseeing the mission. Since LASP is in Boulder, Boulder currently has a pile of Italian astrophysicists here working on getting the

IXPE launched in early December and is currently going through commissioning. So the first observations will come in early 2022.  It’s a pretty big deal if you are interested in black-holes.

This kind of all terrain thing is pretty common in Iceland. Not quite this “high-end”, but similar capabilities. They make sense there since the backroads are mostly about fording banded rivers, etc., not climbing up a rock wall at Moab.

Here in Colorado, rapid home test kits will be mailed to you for free, upon request. Plus free drive-through testing centers are generally available 7 days a week. Anyone in Colorado can get tested if they want.

Colorado currently has one of the worst outbreaks in the nation. Access to testing isn’t really the issue.

For years now, we do a variation of the Icelandic Christmas. Nothing but books and chocolate are allowed as gifts for anyone over 16. The reduction in pressure is tremendous. The reduction in cost means old and young are on equal footing, gift-wise.  That used books are fair game makes it even easier.

In general, how does one make money on this sort of thing? Spinning the stories themselves would seem to be pretty easy, but how does one monetize that?  I’m about to be without a job, so may have some time on my hands.
