My dad built a pretty roomy one when I was a kid. The neighbors all said if he was the only one left, they’d just as soon go with the initial blast. (This was back in the day when one could make jokes at each other’s expense) We were mostly self sufficient, so ours was used to hold rows and rows of canned vegetables

It’s especially insulting in this case. Sometimes mistakes are made out of ignorance or simple inconsideration, without trying to actually offend someone. This case however was clearly intentional and meant to be offensive.

Thanks. We had thought at the time that he was just playing host too. Though he was still very much drinking himself! Someone told us of this pouring protocol later, so it’s good to hear that maybe that was not the case. We did try and reciprocate, but didn’t really know how to push it (e.g. I was raised in the deep

A habit my wife learned the benefit of years ago. They take up little space and provide a nice little token when traveling internationally. While we don’t usually get the same milage out of them in other countries, everyone appreciates space science stickers.

We visited for the first time a few weeks ago. A few things that we didn’t expect:
1) We took a bunch of decals of space stuff (e.g. rocket launches, space missions, etc.), and these were like gold: give one away and all of a sudden you have hotel upgrades or extra drinks, etc.
2) speaking of that, I didn’t understand

My father used to be a fine and entertaining street magician. A few years ago, he tried to perform a very simple card trick for my daughter. That he could no longer do such a simple illusion broke my heart. I helped him struggle through the trick, but he wept at the acknowledgment of his loss. Shortly thereafter he

Good thing they aren’t registered then.

That’s pretty good for a rookie.

I can tell we’re kindling spirits

Due to health concerns, my daughter had to go vegan earlier this year. So as a family we’ve done it together. In our experience is it’s mostly a logistics issue. e.g. Having the right stuff in the house to make quick meals when you work late. The rest of it was easy and surprisingly tasty. I’m not sure about needing

Laika is at the top of the pyramid where she belongs. Shots all around!

This whole kerfuffle is stupid.

I spent some time in Utqiaġvik a few years ago (it was still Barrow then), and came away profoundly impressed with not only the depth of knowledge the people of the North Slope possessed, but also the manner in which they shared it with each other. It was clearly a far deeper understanding of the dynamics at work on

I have been advised to just get a burner phone to use for any foreign travel to avoid this very thing. So far, I’ve never been the focus of any searches of my electronic devices, but I know that’s just a matter of luck (and being white). I need to be more proactive though, in finding alternative devices to use for

Is this illegal? I know that it’s illegal for a foreign entity to contribute to a campaign, but is this wasn’t a direct contribution. Is it one of those things like churches telling the congregation how to vote: technically illegal, but difficult or impossible to prosecute?

But how is this playing out with voters there? Has it hurt her, or might it actually help her in the election? None of Trump’s statements have seemed to make so much as a dent in his base. Is it possible this plays to her strengths rather than her weaknesses?

I look forward to this. As a researcher of the cryosphere, I sometimes get to go along into the Arctic and Antarctic, and can never get enough of seeing those places. I hope there’s lots of pictures here!

As a farm boy, I learned the value of growing your own, indoors, back in the 80's. Even seeds gathered from the poorest strains would yield significantly better results than that purchased on the streets. With a little science focused on this industry, I’m not surprised at these findings at all.

Most architects of “note” take the building site into consideration. If this one was so noted, why did he orient the house such that someone else had to deal with it? I’d like to know more about that part of the story.
