Mike Pence would be flat out worse. At least Trump doesn’t have that many serious connections within the U.S. government. Pence does, and he actually knows how to do what he wants to do (this is the guy that made the whole state look bad with the RFRA).

Trump is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it. He won’t be able to do that, since his new position comes with structural constraints that even he cannot ignore.

I don’t see how Trump suffers any kind of real consequences in the situation you describe. He will have the platinum health care afforded by his position (be it the title of POTUS or his personal wealth). He will make connections that will allow him to retain his wealth and status even after he’s out of office. He…
