I had a dealer one time due the whole “sorry not sorry we can’t find your keys” stunt after they drove my car to go get coffee...errrrr.....wanted to look my car over.  That was very very upsetting. Because of that I keep my keys in my pocket. When the sales person comes up to me and wants to see my trade in, I tell

What are the odds that they would be able to find a full jury where none of the jurors have had a really bad experience at a dealership happen to them or someone they know?

If they don’t want to give you your keys back, just tell them: “Look, I ain’t afraid to go back to jail.”

A few years ago I was at a dealership and my salesman “forgot to take my keys out of his pocket and went on a test drive with another customer” while I waited for the GSM to come finish negotiations. It was only when we failed to come to terms and I was ready to go that I discovered that they “couldn’t find my keys”.

Dealership tried a “hide the keys” (we were still negotiating and he pretended he’d misplaced them) after looking at my car for possible trade-in and I pulled out my favorite “disappointed-Mom-getting-ready-to-spank-your-ass” face and he handed them over. (My mother could scare a MMA expert - no lie).

In 2004 I was trading my old Prelude for an SVT Focus. The dealer was adding about $1,000 in the fine print of the paperwork to the agreed upon price and I was refusing to sign. Then they claimed my trade-in wouldn’t start and wouldn’t let me try because “it was parked in an employees only area.” I had no choice but

Someone did something like this to my wife at a Ford dealership. long story short. She called me and I went there and gave her my car and she left. I let them know I was waiting for her keys.

Just minimum wage security guards who think they have power, trying to abuse it. I assume they thought I was stealing. I wasn’t. I had actually spent around 200 on clothing.

Helped some very not car savvy friends buy a car in early 2020. They needed a 2nd car as she had just started driving, and were also looking to trade in their old car on a newer used car if a good deal came up.

Gotta love the system where even when people are getting your money, they’ll imprison you to get more

The problem with getting quotes ahead of time, etc. is that most people who end up in this situation are dealing with subprime sellers/lenders. Places like that do not give quotes ahead of time. I am a consumer protection lawyer in Wisconsin, and have dealt with numerous similar cases: a dealership who physically

And there’s at least one more trick. Friend bought a car, everything signed, sealed, delivered. A month later he got a call from the dealer that his loan had been denied and he had two choices, they’d come pick up the car or he could take the new higher loan rate. He went to the dealer, yelled and screamed so much they

After reading this, I realize the dealership tried the hide the keys trick on me. We were arguing over some stuff, and they “misplaced” my keys...Luckily I had a tile on them and was able to quickly locate them, I wondered why my using a tile to locate my keys created such a commotion/interest from the manager and empl

Dealerships when they’re busy want as many sales as possible. So if they’re playing the ‘hide the keys bit’ screaming “suck my dick I want my fucking keys” usually ends whatever situation you’re in.

If you purposefully park behind me to keep me there, I will drive straight into your vehicles.

EVERY dealer does this, even when you aren’t looking for a car to buy.

Dealers that pull these grade-school tricks do so partly because they have no ethics, and partly because it works (sadly).

This makes me feel lucky with how my only new car buying transaction went. The price the dealer listed on Autotrader was excellent so I called them and asked them to provide me a quote in writing of that price without any bs that I could act on. They emailed me one in 15 minutes. I bought the car.

This all reminds me of one time I was talking to a couple of female colleagues about a sexual harassment seminar we had all taken - my comment was something to the effect of “I’m not perfect, but I’ve never had to say to myself, “no - don’t touch that woman’s ass’” or “maybe I shouldn’t invite that woman I don’t know

An ex girlfriend was at a dealer and a perk was they would wash your car while you were looking- they did it off site and she was stuck there for 4 hours waiting for her car to be returned she finally went apeshit on them and the car returned very quickly
