This person is deplorable. I made the mistake of getting entangled with him/her and it’s just devolved into them insulting me rather than refuting my arguments.

Please enlighten me as to how I am anyone’s lackey. I am merely another commenter who happened to weigh in on a discussion. My agreeing with StolenIdentity is irrelevant as I have neither met nor spoken with him/her in the past.

Are your arguments so weak that you need to resort to insults? In case you haven’t noticed, Mr. Reading Comprehension, I never once flung a personal insult at you yet this is not the first in this thread you have. Between StolenIdentity and myself you have spent more time insulting than debating. If you truly believe

My my, such anger. There’s no need to resort to swearing like that just because you’ve been backed into a corner. You’re getting mighty upset over someone disagreeing with you on the internet.

Then perhaps you should learn to articulate yourself better as your comments indicated that you put faith in technology above all else, regardless of quality.

Also:

Really? So you’ve determined that I’m a Luddite based on my few statements? That’s mighty presumptive of you. Perhaps you should factor into your Luddite calculation the fact that I work in the IT industry and deal with new technologies on a daily basis. I don’t fear new technology but I don’t blindly embrace it

I’m not a hypocrite. I apply the same standard in my judgement of both statements. I just happen to agree with StolenIdentity and view your attempts at implying he’s a poor driver as the result of someone disagreeing with you. Due to my driver training, I was taught to not rely on technology that can and does fail.

That’s a huge if. If a human designs a system and humans are fallible then it’s logical to assume that the system can also be fallible. There’s no excuse to not know how to drive without the crutch of excess technology.

Actually, I did read the entire thread and I agree with StolenIdentity. He doesn’t show a technology phobia to me. He, correctly, feels that too much technology acts like a crutch and just makes things worse. Take away a reason for people to hone a skill and they won’t.

There’s absolutely no replacement for proper driver training.

Holy shit you have a lot of assumptions in your comments. How the hell do you get the idea that StolenIdentity is a shitty driver who should never have gotten their licence from him advocating for shoulder checks?

Don’t be so eager to put all your trust in technology. Computers are only as good as the people who program them and recent experience has shown that most software is released with a ton of bugs.

I live in Canada so sports-wise we’re all about hockey.

What about hockey? :P

Otherwise, you run the risk of offending your neighbors

Your post reminds me so much of The IT Crowd. Nobody pays IT guys any attention until something is broken.

But why should he ask if his neighbours are ok with him doing something completely legal on his own property? Last I checked you don’t need someone’s permission to do legal shit on your own property. Honestly, in my opinion, any neighbour that is that ornery can go fuck themselves.

How is the neighbour a dick for merely parking a trailer on his property? Should he have consulted with his neighbours before buying the trailer? When does this insanity end?

Diesel is a big maybe, depending on a lot of circumstances. Diesel only burns when it’s aerosolized and compressed, same as jet fuel. It’s no where near as volatile as gasoline. I’ve seen people toss matches into buckets of diesel and it just puts the match out.
