This was exactly the review I was hoping for, @David Tracy. An excellent mix of subjective input combined with some detailed tech, and a HUGE bonus for the Fred Williams cameo — I’m a DED devotee, and he’s always seemed like a super-genuine (and knowledgeable!) dude. Really cool that you got to spend some seat time

As a dyed-in-the-wool VW addict, I’ve always wanted (and feared) these. I was in my local indy German repair shop a few weeks ago — they were doing some work on my daughter’s 318ti – and there were TWO Touareg V10s in the stalls, which has to be the majority of the extant examples in Tulsa. Of course, I had to ask

In this case, older=better.

Another VW fanboy here, and yeah... It sure seems that the majority of the “no dice” responses so far are from people who have zero business owning a car like this in the first place. Rest assured, there *will* be tinkering required to keep it in good nick — O-rings to replace, grounds to tighten down, etc. They’re

Preach. Finally got around to doing all four in my ‘03 Suburban recently. Granted, I live in the southwest and everything came loose easily, but the entire job took maybe 30 minutes. Why did I put it off for so long?

I’m going to go a different route from the litany of plugs/wires/oil change comments, and suggest something a bit more involved but still essentially easy.

Have you met a goodly number of your fellow Americans? Terrible people seem to be highly popular with... other terrible people.

This was what I came here to say.

Okie here... Literally a mile-and-a-half away from Nathan Dahm’s district in Broken Arrow. I should remind you that this is the same Trump-stronghold municipality that officially refused any effort to implement COVID restrictions, and is generally regarded by the greater Tulsa community as a cesspool of mouth-breathing

I... I kinda like it. For what it is, anyway, which is a bit of rolling documentation for its time and place. Fresh paint and stripes (and hell, why not go a little more wild with the palette while you’re at it?) would make this a showstopper at any Radwood event. Not to mention that the underpinnings are of legendary

Commenting here mostly to celebrate my freedom from The Dreaded Greys. I generally loathe everything about these behemoths, but damn if this one isn’t clean and helluva lot of car for the ask. It’s not my thing, but if it’s yours this looks like one worth considering.

I’ve been commenting on and off for like 15 years now, and I’m still in the greys.

As the owner of a ‘79 Westy that also suffered #3 cylinder failure, I’ve contemplated this sort of swap as well!

As someone who’s only ever for-sure seen the first movie (maybe the second one too?), I’ll at least be checking this out with my 4yo son. At this point, I’m in favor of almost anything* that will foster his interest in things with wheels and motors.

Funny you should mention that. This car was *on* BaT a few weeks ago, and was a no-sale at $7100. I love, love, LOVE MkII Jettas, and (as a member of the class of ‘94) this one ticks all of the right boxes for me, but yeah... At $16.5, this is solidly CP for me.

Also, what can I do to get out of the gray here? I’ve been posting on this site (albeit not as much lately) since 2008!

Case study: me. Father of three (ages ranging from three to 14), single-income household in the central plains. We make one car payment on my wife’s 2012 Traverse, which is about what we can afford at just over $300/mo. I’ve been content to drive older “cash cars” all my life. Last December, I picked up a 2003

Came here for this. Was not disappointed.

Hahaha... Man, I had an ‘01 just like yours, even in black. My experience was also nearly identical, up to and including the oil leaks and blocked sunroof drain, but luckily I escaped a fried CPU. What a beautiful nightmare that car was, and I can’t say I was sad to lose it in my divorce. My ex later traded it for a

Here in Tulsa, for starters, which isn’t a bad place to live at all. This is significantly more than I paid for our reasonably nice 2300sq ft 4-bedroom on a nice lot in an established neighborhood just three years ago...
