It’s big hair, unkempt . My hair (though brown) grows in much the same way. My hair has also been “policed” when it has gotten big-it is not racism, it is about standards. Schools and places of work tend to prefer their staff having short or otherwise closely styled hair.

I guess the issue is that she is dismissing a possible punishment for literally EVERY CASE in advance, without taking into account the offence omitted, victim impact etc.
People tend to if not outright disregard this kind of stuff, at least accept the other person for who they are and what they believe, even if they themselves disagree. Some might even actively challenge their partner on their views and manage to change their mind....
