You’re exaggerating a bit about the big Citroëns. The C6 was not a success but as far as I know the Traction and especially the DS were (they made over a million DSs!), and I don’t think the CX and XM did too bad.

You’re British aren’t you? Citroën especially has that image in the UK, because they relied mostly on the smallest cars in their range and went a bit overboard with the discounts.

It’s taking a while to reach the US because you have your own ultra-beige Passat and everything, but VW is moving away from beige now. Look at the new Euro Passat or the new Tiguan.

Citroën and DS cars are a bit weird, but Peugeots are (and have always been) quite conventional.

Thank God it didn’t sell, or I would have to see it often. Its successor the 4008 (a rebadged Mitsubishi ASX) looks much better.

Not really, our regional accents aren’t that strong and they don’t really affect the sounds in Peugeot and Citroën.

Cadillac is actually pronounced Cadiyac in French, not Cadilac.

They’ve dropped diesel-hybrid and won’t offer it in new models. They’re working on their own petrol-hybrid system.

I agree that no modern Citroën is the equal of the DS,, but what car is?

You bet Renault used to be present in the US, they sold cars under their own brand and they used to own AMC. The shares don’t tell the whole story though, in the end it’s Carlos Ghosn who calls the shots and depending on the times he’ll “favour” Nissan or Renault regardless of who owns how much of who.

Now playing

What do you mean by enthusiastic cars? Peugeot and Citroën are mainstream carmakers, they won’t come out with a supercar or anything. They also pretty much invented modern FWD so it’s logical that they’ll stick with it. As far as hot hatches are concerned Peugeot have arguably the best historical record of any company

I disagree, if you look at the C4 Picasso or the C4 Cactus they manage to offer something different from competitors in other ways.

I may be wrong but I think the PSA-Mitsubishi parnership won’t be continued and will stop after Mitsubish stops making the iOn/C-Zero and 4008/C4 Aircross.

Surely the 508 is midsize by US standards? It’s larger than a C-Class Merc.

Indeed!

Im sorry to tell you this, but RCZ production stopped a few moths ago. It won’t be replaced.

I don’t see that happening, cars like the iOn and 4007 were hardly triumphs and PSA have the knowledge to make their own SUVs now (the new Peugeot 3008 is right around the corner, expect DS and Citroën SUVs in the next couple of years too).

Read a review of the Peugeot 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport (not the regular GTi), it’s apparently an amazing hot hatch and the last thing it would need is a heavy 4WD system. The DS 3 will essentially share everything with it but will probably be a bit softer.

That one is not even for sale in France!

No, they have dropped hydropneumatic. They reckon it’s too complicated and competing conventional suspensions have gotten almost as good.
