One of my friends is violently opposed to modern vehicles because they have crumple zones. He’s convinced its a conspiracy to force you to buy a new car with every minor fender bender. He also seems to not understand where the metal goes when it crumples, thinking it all goes into the passenger compartment.

Since your in the Detroit area let me give you a tip for some amazing roads and the best scenery. Hop on I-75 and make a beeline for Traverse City and the pinky. The roads around Long Lake are perfect, meandering and utterly flawless. Make sure to stop at the Village Cheese shop in Leeland, best sandwichs in the state.

Yeah.. A lot of this is at the feet of employees too. My mom’s company is a major supplier to all three and they have to keep a fleet of cars for each customer now. Turns out it’s cheaper than having to pay for employee cars getting trashed at Big 3 lots. Keying, dumping trash on and worse isn’t uncommon unfortunately.

I suspect its in case the front tire sinks into the mud or sand. So it doesn’t sink too deep and can self extricate.

P-38 Lightning, also called the fork tailed devil. They were the absolute bane of the Zero. And I would say one fuselage really, one cockpit pod and two engine and tail booms.
