I think you're misunderstanding how a lot of these projects start, but really, don't blame this on Kickstarter.

I would argue that Metroid Prime 3 could be manipulated into a good story, but here's the thing: they need $90 grand for 10 minutes. 10 MINUTES. That's not enough time for even a few setpieces, let alone a proper story. I wouldn't give them my money even if I didn't think they'd get shut down.
