The difference with Steam is I can copy all of the installed files and crack them so I can play them for the rest of my life without a Steam connection. Also Steam has an offline mode. So I can install a game, go to offline, drive to the middle of nowhere and keep playing for weeks without a connection. Can't do that…

Your point about internet availability in war zones is voided by the fact that the companies providing internet services actively restrict visiting certain protocols and purposely limit the available bandwidth to below a megabyte per second. They have it pretty rough over there.

I think it's still Microsoft vs Sony, with PCs and Nintendo in a separate, non-competitive league of their own. Nintendo is still going to move a lot of units and do well, but ultimately they're playing a different game entirely.
