A few houghts since news broke this morning:

I think Renault was the best option. Haas is faster right now because of Ferrari tech but they will never compete with the manufacturer teams. Renault is a factory team with a much larger budget and a history of success. I think they could be more competitive than Red Bull or Haas next year.

On the one hand, Ricciardo will probably never be a world champion in a team centered around Max Verstappen. On the other, Ricciardo will probably never be a world champion driving for Renault’s works team, certainly not before 2021. So this feels like a huge sideways move.
