I agree, simply assuming that the brain and consciousness are some kind of state machine is a big assumption. That would imply, at least to me, that our brains are deterministic. But then what would that say about free will and morality?

That happened pretty damn quick. So from that star's planet's perspective, would everything have appeared as normal, then suddenly their sun explodes? Or is there a more gradual explosioning first that we can't see?
