True, they're starting to look like politicians arguing over the fiscal cliff....

I think stories set around the life of Boba Fett would make for a cool series, if not a feature-length film. So many opportunities for different sets, plots, etc, as he takes on different bounty-hunter jobs. Sort of like a much-cooler "Dog the bounty hunter", but in space. And without the stupidity.

Skeptic101's comment below is a good start to why we don't need a plague. There is less human starvation, privation and disease now (on a per-capita basis) than at any time in the history of our species. And human population growth has already slowed dramatically (for reasons mentioned by Gogogadgetanyt.. below): as

As cool as this idea is, I see it as going the way of the Teledesic and Iridium. That is, while the space-based solution (to providing broadband internet and cellular service, respectively) was technically more elegant, and would have provided (or does provide, in the case of Iridium) "total coverage", they were both

I love how that space-ship/shuttle in the very first (top) photo looks like a slightly over-inflated SR-71 Blackbird....

Um.... okay, so maybe I'm somehow the insensitive pig here, but I thought the article was a bit of an overreaction to the calendar (and the video for that matter)? I mean - maybe if there was no context for the video, I'd have been like, "what the F?", but knowing that it's a "making of" vid for TWD, then I know

"She is confident it will be released in several weeks, which means it's already passed peer review and is being prepared for publication."

I'll take that bet, if only because (most) people seem to misunderstand the likely use to which the Liaoning (formerly the Varyag) will be put. The carrier is going to be a functional test-bed of sorts for the Chinese military, letting them test out both the equipment involved (aircraft, landing systems, the ship

#correction - it wasn't bought from Russia, it was bought at auction from Ukraine ;-)

As much as I would love the chance to spend a year on Mars, if forced to pick a place to spend the rest of my life between Mars and Phuket, I'll take the beautiful beaches, diving and food of Phuket.

Also, Phuket is pronounced, "pooh-ket" (rhymes with, "you get"), not... eh... what you were thinking ;-)

This twinkie will survive heat death. All fields will eventually unify in this twinkie. There will be no "big crunch", because this twinkie will still be soft until the end of time... :-)

Okay, that made my wife and I laugh out loud!!

Exactly what I was thinking.. hydraulic furniture and all.

Not all things are possible, and that is where you and I fundamentally disagree over the nature of things.

"Inherit the Stars", by James Hogan. I read it as a kid (or at least, 20+ years ago!).

You're right - you're a conspiracy theorist ;-)

You guys are really on a BSG kick in the last day or so, eh?

Not to belittle Ms. Higashi, but if my wife had ever deigned to tell me what operating system I should run on my home server, or demand that my repos be on Github rather than say, Bitbucket (or my own server instance in AWS or whatever), we wouldn't be married today. My advice - try boiling all that down to maybe

Repeated Portal Adventures until everybody is so tired of them, that they just wish it would all stop? I'm pretty sure that was called, "Sliders", lol
