Everybody wants you already fully trained and ready to go. Very difficult to find an opportunity where they are willing to help you transition and learn.
The unfortunate male/female exercise divide persists in gyms, too; as an avid-ish gymgoer I haven't been a member of a single health club that didn't host a creepy invisible line between the "girl" side (ellipticals! stair climbers!) and the "boy" side (MUSCLES!). And crossing the line leads to social penalties for…

mine used to be like that when I was younger. miss those days when I wondered what the hell everyone was talking about.
"weirdly widely spaced thighs" . . . sigh, a girl just can't win.
I wasn't saying that the gentleman you're speaking about was offering you a positive comment.
Um, I've had guys tell me they love my thick tighs, so . . . not NO man. And it's not negging. Some guys love thick thighs. Some guys don't.
It's not that men are expecting it. It's just something that turns some men on - and that's ok. Some guys like small feet or big eyes or long hair or whatever. If it's out there, there's a guy who likes it and probably wants to fuck it. It's not something to be insecure about. It's not men's fault if women are…
I have a cargo net back there to stop things from sliding around. Not sure if yours has the hooks. My car has em back there.
Ah, my one big perk to getting laid off: I get to work out regularly now. I'm trying to stick to a schedule of 4x/wk at the gym, M-R, to lift and swim. Weekend are optional swimming for fun/relaxation/DOMS relief. I have a gym where I live but they only have machines - no barbell. I'm doing 5x5, so I need that…
If you're not a nursing mother, is that frowned upon? We had a nursing room in my old office but they made it clear it was for nursing moms only. What if a mom needs to pump while you're napping?
Was this also a workplace where everyone pulled extra long hours in office? Is that why it was acceptable?
Brutal! I am impressed. That's rough. My biggest challenge to accomplishing more than work and sleep has been my commute. Up until last week I was commuting 3-4 hours a day to and from work. But, now that I'm laid off, well, I have plenty of time to study. Would LOVE to go to school also but that's just not doable…
So what's your schedule like? If you're working and going to school (I think, from reading your other comments here, that's what you're doing) and then teaching yourself at home further skills not covered at school. How do you manage all of that?
I'm so afraid of how horrifying a collision with a bike would be that I'm extra careful and, honestly, I stay the fuck away from bikes. Even if they're riding cool, not being dicks, I still don't want to be the car there should, god forbid, anything go awry for either of us. Same goes for fuel tank trucks!
Ok, that' s a solid point. I like that. Someone once said something to me along the lines of, "The time is going to pass no matter what you're doing. When you're 30 or 40 or 50, would you rather be doing this or that?" I'm giving the advice no justice right now, but the sentiment sticks with me. Thanks for reminding…
What if she was just calling the police?
I feel you and I make it a point to be very aware of both motorcycles and bicycles on my roadway. But I come across more bikes doing 100+ coming out of nowhere or riding between lanes of traffic than I do the dudes just riding around enjoying their bikes. I've never almost had an accident with the guys and girls who…
I wish I could meet Jen. She's doing what I'm too afraid to do.
