Did a little research and you are correct sir, though nickel has roughly half the ferromagnetism that Cobalt and Iron do. That's why a magnet won't stick to a stainless steel (nickel-iron alloy) fridge. So I doubt that little magnet will 'stick' to your strings.

Nickel is non-ferrous. For a magnet to work on any non-electrified surface there would have to be iron. So stainless, nickel, copper, lead and pretty much most metals would not be affected though you may get interference with the pickups.
