Okay, so I don't agree with what happened to Marissa Alexander or with her sentence or what Angela Corey is doing, but you asked so here's the reason the judge didn't rule in her favor during the Stand Your Ground hearing. (1) She was in Gray's house, where she had not lived for two months. (2) When she was

Agreed. I would not call her a politician either, as I said. However, I was responding to the part of your earlier post where you wrote that the First Lady does not "participate in party politics." She most definitely participates in party politics.

Okay, I see that. But lots of First Ladies, this one included, are very valuable political campaigners, so I think it's fair to say she participates in politics even if she is not necessarily a politician.

Forget about the definition of a politician as written above for the moment. You really don't think the First Lady of the United States participates in politics?

Well, I did. Are you saying that farmers hire their children to work for them, or that farmers' children inherit their parents' farms, but no one complains about it? Are you being darkly sarcastic and I missed it?

Just out of curiosity, can you explain what you mean by nepotism in the farming industry? That confused me.

I'm not a big city person, so I don't enjoy Miami. But I figure there are jackasses in every state. The Bugs Bunny gif users are just blind to their own state's stupidity and foibles. Plus, there are no cool cartoon gifs to use on them.

As long as you promise not to break out the Bugs Bunny sawing gif.

I wish less schools and school districts hadn't made it off-limits for high school teachers because of "bad language." I work in one of them. I know of what I speak. We also can't read Margaret Atwood or Toni Morrison or Kurt Vonnegut. I'm sure the list will be longer next year.

Kerry Gold comes salted. I've got it in my fridge right now. The foil on the salted kind is gold and the unsalted is wrapped in silver foil.

And what about Martin Sheen? He's used his fame to stand up for a fair amount of good causes.

I don't know what I would do either. As far as sentencing goes, Florida law requires 20 years when a gun is used in the commission of a crime. Local lawyers seem think that this judge is very likely to give Dunn three, 20-year sentences to be served consecutively (not concurrently) and he could get up to 15 years

That's another possible scenario. I just don't know if a jury that had no trouble coming up with unanimous verdicts on the three attempted murder charges was hung up on self-defense or or premeditation. The latter seems more likely to me, but we'll have to wait and see what they say.

I read this jury kind of differently. I think that there was at least one juror — and more likely more than one — who was insisting upon first-degree murder in the case of Jordan Davis and didn't want to agree to second-degree. We'll have to wait and see what they say.

Maybe one or more jurors were holding out for a first-degree murder conviction and refused to back down. It seems possible since they specifically asked before returning their verdict if all the charges would be retried or just the first count. We'll have to wait and see.

I agree with you, but the prosecutor has already announced that she intends to retry Dunn for Jordan Davis' murder. They will fix the mistakes they made the first time around and he will be convicted of murder next go-round.

If you go for second-degree murder there is a six-person jury and not a 12-person jury. You see how that worked out in the George Zimmerman case. A couple of strong personalities can sway the other four. That's not so likely when you've got 12 people deliberating.

Except that going for second-degree murder and agreeing to that six-person jury has its own set of dangers. It was a six-person jury that acquitted George Zimmerman. Had Zimmerman been charged him with first-degree murder then he would have had a 12-person jury and probably not been acquitted. A 12-person jury

You may not know it, but in Florida (unlike some other US states) when a prosecutor charges someone with first-degree murder the jury can automatically consider the lesser included charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter. It's likely that this jury believed Dunn killed Jordan Davis, (since they had no

I hear you, but we teach civics in my part of the world and as far as I can tell it honestly doesn't make any difference.
