Like.

Some in the ‘long list’ of movies in the 70s weren’t even that widely distributed. And some of the better ones - like Logan’s Run and the Ape movies just weren’t in the same class. Good SF movies with as little special effects as possible...

Wow. I didn’t realize that it was so bad. Personally, I loved it. But with all the hate going on, I guess I must have been wrong. Okay, truth be told, I really don’t care what others think, but I will say...

And TONS more after Star Wars:

You’re making my point. The only ones on your list that come anywhere close in hard SF quality to Star Wars are Solaris, 2001 and Silent Running. And that covers more than an decade.

You have to realize how much SF there was back then (1976). SF films were very rare, and most were pretty cheesy because of the high cost of special effects. There were a few good SF movies before that, but they happened maybe once every 3-5 years! Star Wars set a completely new standard that appealed not only to SF

You nailed it. I loved it because I loved SF and I loved film noire. Both in one movie? Bam! If you find film noire boring, not much chance you’ll like Blade Runner...

For sale: Space helmet, cracked visor.

Stop, all you Star Wars haters!

Nice beaver...

So there is more matter around the universe than we thought... Hmmmm...

“the James Webb Space Telescope—an 8.7 billion dollar, tennis-court sized device that’ll allow astronomers to see the first light from the beginning of the universe”

It is an awetastic name.

I hear ya...

That was a not bad movie for 1965 special-effects. It actually scared me a wee bit when Donald Pleasence’ character was killed by the white corpuscles as they dissolved their way through the mini-ship’s bubble top:

...down to the latest radio developments...

all good; but we need to keep reminding ourselves that they’re informed guesses - you know what happens if you keep saying something over and over again...

mmmm, well it’s something, alright...

And I’m guessing just about as well received by the opposite sex...

clearly not, but there is precisely 0 (zero) evidence to present either way
