The most significant synergy in Star Trek terms is the Maquis. I’ll back up a second here:

Which is a good point because the Marvel Universe in some ways is like non-genre TV universes (see also Mary Tyler Moore and its spinoffs) than it is genre TV universes.

I feel like Star Trek did a lot more synergy between film and TV actually, the MCU movies largely ignore the shows.

Just like on Star Trek: Voyager.

Even if Hulk counted towards anything his MCU film was second up.

Oh, I remember. Kid of the Renaissance here, though I saw their various underperforming 70s and early 80s projects on VHS in my youth. Fox and the Hound indeed.

Well their latest attempt to do precisely just that - Tomorrowland, a film rooted in DisneyWorld lore - underperformed, so the implication is they are putting such work on the back burner.

Yup. The riskiest thing Disney will do now is their animated films will not all be direct sequels of previous films (though many will.)

Yes it didn’t make a lot of money hence me calling it a second tier film. Critical acclaim however can be irrelevant if a film is sufficiently financially successful or viable, look at the many Pirates sequels for example, with yet another on the way.

Touche about Tomorrowland not being somewhat less male oriented than Tron; and of course the way social media essentially plays as an unpaid arm of Disney corporate; the latter of which irks me to no end.

I think it’s more Disney sees no need for new or second tier franchise films targeting boys when they now own Marvel and Star Wars. It’s also part of why they’ll never return to John Carter.

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are far more forgiving of Ultron and the Ant-Man trailer than I am.

Oh no mistake, Mad Max: Fury Road is the best action movie of the year. Probably even the decade (it is that or Raid for me.)

Oh me neither. It just had better trailers than Ulrron or Ant-Man but that’s a pretty low bar; this is just not that good a year for this sort of movie.

It had budget cuts and less episodes last year, in addition to a showrunner overhaul.

The Wachkowskis had nothing to do with Hemlock. I was just saying if Sense8 was a flop for Netflix it wouldn’t be the first.

Three mediocre films, don’t forget the 90s one. The Trank one looks pretty good, though, probably the only decent looking superhero film this year.

They were developing and shooting this show long before JA was released.

I disagree; I feel Dorian is fundamentally emblematic of the kind of show Penny Dreadful is - it’s not an action-adventure show. It’s a Gothic Horror show, and it enjoys mediating on both high and low culture traditions within Gothic horror as it does gleefully indulging in it - this show has given us the Grand

Correct! If there’s just one character cut from the TV show I am disappointed we will probably never see, it’s Aeron Damphair; that loony drowning worshipper.
