There is no way the cops get out of this situation without looking like shit. They had no business being called, they had no business being there, they had no business lying the the child’s mother, and they had no business handcuffing a child for the “crime” of drawing a picture. There are plenty of ways that they are

Even if there was an implied threat we’ve seen cops do nothing until there’s an actual threat; so I’m not buying that excuse on the school’s behalf. If there was an implied threat then that’s a cry for help and a sign they should be doing something about the bully not calling the cops on the bully’s victim. So

Came for this. Regardless of what the drawing was of - even if we imagine the worst, most violent stuff - it’s a drawing. A fantasy in the transitional space of play. That warrants a therapist at most and at least - if it was something innocuous - nothing. What the fuck is going on over there?

Even if the drawing was some seriously disturbing stuff you'd think a mental health professional or maybe child services would be the people to call rather than law enforcement.

What kind of moron calls the cops over a drawing and what kind of IDIOT arrests and handcuffs a child over that drawing?  I can’t.....

I assumed that Karen was white because who the fuck calls a school to demand that the police be called on a child because of a drawing but an over-entitled heau?

Aww, thank you! Some of these comments had me tripping.

So a ten-year-old girl was detained and questioned without a parent or access to a lawyer, cuffed, thrown into a squad car and taken to a police stations for assault with a deadly crayon? Whole lotta bad shit here, from violation of constitutional rights to arrest when no crime has even been alleged. The state of Hawai

Aside from the long list of overfamiliar injustices to the little girl who made the drawing, what (if anything) was done regarding the alleged bully who inspired it?

Is there any proof that “all” famous dark skinned actors were otherwise occupied? Is there proof that no up and coming dark skinned actresses were just not the right fit in the entire film industry? Is there any proof that the other actors, director, producer, casting directors, agents had nobody in mind to recommend

This all day! Lol.

every single dark skinned actress had a bad audition or was booked for this high profile movie??? Okay. Thank god for the light skinned girk to come and save the day. Listen, I like her a lot, but this is a ridiculous excuse. They didn’t try because they saw no reason to because they either don’t care to not continue

I responded to that troll as well. I don’t think that’s an actual West African Black person. Having lived both there and in the U.S., what it’s saying is a lie.

You are way out of your depth. She is a black woman, period. But she is not a dark skinned black woman. It is not that hard, to consider both concepts. It’s even easier to just sit this one out.

Starred for the laugh. It’s absurd on its face but somehow was legitimized by the roles she was offered and felt entitled to accept. The Harriet Tubman movie had was problematic for other reasons but your comment reminds me of how the screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard said a movie exec suggested... JULIA ROBERTS as

Hey at least they didn’t cast Scarlett Johannsen!

The first trailer for The Harder They Fall looked really cool, and I was glad to see Zazie Beetz’s star continue to rise. But I didn’t know Stagecoach Mary was a real person, and numerous movies has featured her before without trying casting her like... this.
