Hmm.  Fairly or unfairly, now Mr. Booker is going to be extra scrutinized for his stances on LGBT related policy topics.  I hope that Mr. Booker has folks in his camp who can speak with authority on his issues, or Mr. RuPaul can help him find some policy advocates.  Meanwhile, look for any Republican opponent in the

So do you think you are making any headway with Mr. Magahat or is resolute about his stance. Did he contribute to any of the discussions?

Like a large portion of America

Yes, exactly. I realized I needed to do something when a health sciences major wore a MAGA hat to class. During a pandemic. He also moans about having to wear a mask, but wears it and is otherwise polite and doesn’t *say* anything political in class. But the hat says enough. What is my role as an educator besides

Hell yeah!

I have one Republican family member and he voted for Biden this time. He said that having Trump as president was the most embarrassing experience of his life.

If the right teacher is in place (and you sound like that kind of educator) there are so many ways to approach an important discussion on what society is, what we value (or don’t) and whether society has a duty to lift up (or ignore) those who struggle. When these discussions are not had, the result is a large portion

Your point is taken. Here are new voters we can all get behind.

Their priorities are out of whack.

We’re watching “Totally Under Control” this week in the uni classes I teach. I ask the students to reflect on if they think the government should play a role in keeping people safe and healthy, what that role should be, if they think we are currently doing it, why or why not. We’re halfway through the film and

Or it will encourage them to understand the system and choose to vote for candidates who present real ideas about how to switch up government policy and the mechanics of how current government operates.

That’s right. My daughter’s BF just turned 18 and while my spouse and I see him as kind of a meek mouse most of the time, the kid got his advance ballot, filled it out, signed the back appropriately and got it in the mail within 24 hours. Biden/Harris vote in Kansas in a very, very red county.

Because he isn’t the only one.

Dear Gen Z,

OK this article isn’t about that kid though, it’s about the voter’s stories above. It’s annoying to have read some lovely, well-thought out responses from first time voters and then have comments like “yeah ok whatever but let’s focus on some baby racist!!!” Why center that guy in this discussion?

A great service to youth would be to help educate them in the way the government works in a manner that is engaging. Not a textbook full of dates and facts but something that helps them understand the stakes. Also how the courts works. And finally, why it is important for all citizens to vote - up and down the ticket.

Not all, but most.  They are twice as likely to identify as liberal than conservative. The more of them that vote, the better it is for liberal causes.

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT ANYONE WOULD VOTE FOR THIS GUY??? HOW!!!???!??!?!?!?!? (everyday I ask myself)

I’m so encouraged by the uptick in young voter participation. I hope it’s not a blip.

my 18 y.o. daughter and 21 y.o. son were both so happy to vote this time, it was very gratifying to watch, although their perspectives (her first time, as a liberal voter, casting a vote not for Biden as much as against Trump, and his second time but he still feels bummed about 2016) are much different from mine (the
