“in what world is this OK?”

Because that’s what the problem was. Not what the words were, but that they hadn’t appeared in the program. Here’s a tip: if the borderline racist comment is so dispensable that the scene it’s in gets edited out, it should never have been the title of the episode in the first place. Yeesh.

not really. racism is so commonplace. we don’t need to visit our local kkk chapter to experience it.

Right? I want to know a LOT more about this cut scene.

Really? Be glad.

The fact that every single fucking white person behind the wheel was spectacularly tone deaf to this sort of institutional racism from the outset, thought the episodes were great to air without realizing how tone-deaf they were coming off, and are now falling all over themselves backpedaling away from these

I’ve never understood the use of that word, given it’s origin. “The term was originally used in Venice to describe the part of the city to which Jews were restricted and segregated.” I feel like people who don’t see the racist connotation of the word today, for whatever weirdo reason, should have at least heard of the

Um, HBO?

“the person who titled the episode did not have the authority to title on behalf of HBO and does not represent HBO’s core values and has since been sacrificed to the god of office politics”

In the future, corporations will apologize by literally throwing the employee under a bus.

A question: WHO originally said “hot ghetto mess” in the cut clip? Because it makes a world of difference.

also urban please thank you

For illustrative purposes what would qualify as intensely ethnic in my office environment is mostly just contemplating on another race and then immediately assigning it a “ghetto” attribute:

I may be naive, but I believe this explanation. A) they do use lines from the show for titles; b) why in the world would they name it that, seriously, I know there are shitty people, but do we really believe HBO just decided to name the show this?; and c) anybody who has worked on ANYTHING last minute knows this kind

“Hot mess” is fine (if not exactly current). I’m with Ov, retire “ghetto” as slang.

I’m surprised they didn’t use the old PR standby.... “the person who titled the episode did not have the authority to title on behalf of HBO and does not represent HBO’s core values.”

Can we all agree to retire ghetto? Unless we’re strictly talking about socio-econonmics?

The Pivot? You mean that thing you do when you’ve got yourself stuck in a tight spot so you keep spinning and spinning in the hope of extracting yourself from the situation. Hmm.
