Harvest Moon A New Beginning is my first HM game and I'm enjoying it a lot. From what I've seen that fans of the series say about it, they like that it's the most customizable one yet. You can actually make your character instead of being stuck with whatever the game gives you.

You can have very similar hobbies but still have new things to share. My husband and I are both gamers, both like anime and manga, both like science fiction shows like Star Trek, etc. But we've still introduced each other to new things.
