As someone mentioned — none. There is none. It scares the hell out of me. I am working this election for my (albeit very blue) city as a poll worker. The law in my state (Minnesota) allows for observers but they can’t approach the voters themselves and there are limits as to what they can observe — like, they can’t

Depending on what state you live in, I think it’s illegal to film inside a polling place and within a certain number of feet of a polling place. But if there’s intimidation / open carry BS going on, I’d sure as hell be filming it — rule be damned.

I am so excited for this movie, but I also can’t wait to read the book!! Just requested it from my library!! Aaahhhh!!

My husband is Mennonite, and my MIL is into making traditional dishes. She makes this cold cherry yogurt soup stuff occasionally... their name for the dish is “mos.” Sometimes she makes it with rhubarb instead. It’s...okay. There seem to be a lot better ways to use cherries than for soup, though?

I think the newer brands of plant-based cheeses are getting there in terms of replicating actual cheese taste. I really like the Chao slices (those are made with coconut products, I think?). There are some other brands of soft, spreadable cheeses out there that are nut-based (can’t think of any brands off the top of

Can we start a thread where we talk about all the stupid crap we did as teens to get out of doing something?

When I was in high school, I worked at a restaurant. I tried to call in sick, but they told me to come in anyway. I made a cup full of fake vomit out of random items found in our fridge, splashed it on my car

I’m looking for advice on the best way to support a friend who is in an abusive relationship. I was able to confirm the other day with someone else that my friend is being abused by her partner — there being at least one incident in the last year where there was physical abuse while she was pregnant. After that

We donate annually to PP, a local women’s clinic and advocacy group, Farm Sanctuary, and a couple of local community radio stations that are not affiliated with NPR. I also recently found out about Reach Out and Read, which gives free books to kids at doctor’s appointments, and plan to donate to that this year.

And

Getting kids into reading early is so important! Have you heard of Reach Out and Read? I recently found out about them — they give a free book to children at their medical checkups starting at 6 months, with a special emphasis on children in low-income communities. Seems like a good program and it’s rated pretty high

Is this an old person thing, or what? I went to a training this week (I’m going to be an election/poll worker for the city I live in), and almost all of the 50 or so people there were elderly. Despite the trainers telling everyone to turn off their ringers or turn off their phones at the beginning, AT LEAST 5

Yes, I realize other countries have women presidents/leaders. But my family and I live in the US. Having a woman as “our” president would be a lot more visible to a little kid who likely isn’t up to speed on the state of international politics. Little kids are taught about “their” president from a young age, and being

As a woman, it is amazing to think that I might get to see the first woman president. I am so excited for all the girls who will grow up potentially experiencing this and being empowered by it.

As a parent who is trying to raise feminist boys, I am also excited for my sons, even though they’ll be too young to fully

Same *passes tissues*. That was a very sweet post by her — it genuinely seems like she is excited and happy. Can’t hate on that.

Oh my god, that second gif...I am sitting in the doctor’s office waiting room rn and I audibly snarfed (snort-laughed?) and scared some folks.

Love this sign. Saving this truth bomb for later use!

I’m getting an Australian Hogwarts prefect vibe from these.

If you are not super handy at sewing and want an easier pattern, you can take a hand towel and sew a triangle of fabric (like one of those big handkerchiefs with the paisleys on them folded in half, if you don’t want to buy fabric). No finishing edges with bias tape, no velcro. To fasten on your kid, you just tie the

Yes! I am the same way — I only check out from the library because otherwise the books don’t get read.

I have been seriously considering leaving fb for a while now, and was pretty sure this week was going to be the week to do it (the passive aggressive stick figure meme is the latest thing that drives me mad). I could also stand to look at *certain* websites throughout the day less. But then, I think about it, and

No advice on the husband, just chiming in to commiserate. My husband does a pretty good job of splitting chores and child-rearing evenly with me, but he has some blindspots. Like you mention, there’s stuff that doesn’t even occur to him, so it falls on me to think about. (E.g. I will see we are going to run out of
