Trust me, I get the same vibe that you’re sensing here but if she says it’s cool then I have to believe her or else I’m denying her agency and her credibility. All I can do is take her at her word but remain critical and be prepared to listen if she changes her tune.

It does, but if the day’s fashion is to #AlwaysBelieveWomen, we kind of have to take her at her word.

Even if that were the case, you can’t speak for her and deny her agency.

Yeah, this has a distinctly non-consensual feel to it. She is literally there as a requirement of her job. Kudos to her (i guess?) for being a good sport about it but it feels real yucky to watch the video of enormous men wearing face covering goggles drenching a single, totally unprotected woman with alcohol.

If there is a baseline between exuberant celebration and disturbingly degrading behavior, these videos are a slow roller toward first that might not stay in fair territory.

You’re right that they won’t suffer much in the way of consequences. Some people will suck up to them, some will avoid them and badmouth them amongst themselves. Maybe there will be a snide joke at their expense in a campus newspaper that would be embarrassing if having billions of dollars didn’t give them an ego that

Carrie Brownstein is a fantastic writer. Her memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl is not only required reading for every woman looking to rock for a living, but it’s so well-written that I’m almost afraid she might switch careers and leave Sleater-Kinney, and what’s a world without Sleater-Kinney??

Unrelated (I think) anecdote: a friend of mine who works in casting happens to be Wiccan. She told me that she put a hex on her apartment that wouldn’t let anyone with “bad intentions” cross her threshold. A friend of hers came by one day & had a buddy in tow - Terence Howard. (This was slightly before Hustle & Flow

I always have and always will love watching Kristen for reasons I can never really understand, let alone articulate to someone else.

Watch The Station Agent and see if you still feel the same way.

I would counter that nobody is really giving their best performances on GoT, because the scripts are generally pretty bad, and it’s a dumb, extraordinarily overrated show.

Out of Sight! Yesssss everybody crushed that one imo.

She was amazing in U-Turn playing the devil against a patsy Shawn Penn.

I'm sure selling the rights allowed Tartt to buy a bunch of new ties, so it's not a total loss.

I was never here...

I just love that she says “my money” right after. I die laughing.

This read like a article in an anthropological journal about some uncontacted tribe in the Amazon.

Obligatory:

That’s exactly how it reads.

I actually really enjoyed the book and the meandering adventure it went on. However, I knew reading it that it would be a TERRIBLE movie. It needs the Olive Kitteridge treatment to be any good; definitely a limited series on Netflix or HBO.
