One thing both the show does really well is argue that just getting superpowers makes you more unpredictably dangerous and less an evil mastermind. You’re not granted intelligence or a sudden grasp of physics and psychology. A Green Beret and a baby are both dangerous with a gun, but not really for the same reason.

While the comics are indeed far different than the show, the racial makeup of the characters is not remotely a significant difference.

We did see A-Train's replacement get popped...

So Edgar said he is cleaning up the mess Homelander made with superterrorists. He also has the reveal of Compound V on his hand. For now they deferring the blowback by diverting public opinion to fear the terrorist more than be angry for the overreaches. But I’m sure The Boys aren’t the only ones who made connection

Heh, second person in this conversation to say Paxton instead of Pullman.

yah I don’t think it’s cindy, gotta be a twist next week. maybe the church.

I mean, it’s an American movie and the entire theme is ‘Independence Day’. You know, the one that we? (no idea where you are from) went to war for. Not only that, the big speech Paxton gives literally references that the 4th is no longer an American holiday because the entire world is fighting for it’s own

Yeah but Cindy hates Stormfront, doesn’t she?  Maybe I misunderstood all the inmates’ feelings towards Stormfront/Vought. Granted, she may not be able to pop Stormfront’s head because she’s super-tough I guess, but it seems like she should’ve at least gotten a headache. The head-popper has to be working for Vought.

Doesn’t Cindy implode things? The head popping seems to be something else. I also got the impression everyone at the hospital were basically uncontrollable rejects.

I like the power imbalance because it forces the Boys to be clever where Seven relay on pure force. This makes the supes complacent - they can brute force almost anything and the rest Vought will clean up. They have all the money and power in the world. The Boys only have conviction and smarts and they have to find

I think it’s interesting that Homelander and Stormfront seemed to genuinely not know what was going on with the exploding heads. So the massacre plan came from above them, or from someone else’s personal initiative.

He self immolated, not for any cause other than his own melodrama.

before setting himself alight in a moment reminiscent of Thích Quảng Đức’s famous death”

Also the movie is called Independence Day (for some reason)

Sorry, gotta pedant here, but Bill Pullman, not Paxton.

It’s a pretty believable political speech for that moment. The point is not to be logically correct, it’s to inspire his troops and improve morale. Linking an objective emotionally to whatever symbolic date or occurrence around the corner, no matter how much of a stretch, is a tried and true move of political speech

I always assumed it was less an invocation of the political roots of the revolution and more of a direct reference to the revolutionary war itself and of soldiers in Valley Forge holding out until they can strike back for “freedom” and the like. Also the movie is called Independence Day (for some reason) so they

I’m going to disagree with the “never made a good movie” statement too, but for Independence Day. It’s a *great* movie that does exactly what it wants to do with huge, bombastic, crowd pleasing success. High art? Maybe not and if it was out now maybe Scorsese would be using it as an example not not-cinema. But it

One scene which both pretty much sums up 1990s America and is guaranteed to burrow right under the skin of most non-Americans watching it is the brief cutaway to the Middle East or wherever towards the end with two RAF pilots monitoring a radio communications linkup, and you get a line of dialogue which basically goes

I remember seeing this on opening night with my teenage friends. One of us was so excited that he literally broke his theater seat rocking back and forth so hard through all of the action scenes.
