What is your opinion on standing starts? This seems like a pretty cool way to start a race (PWC, F1, etc). I guess it’s not cool for endurance racing and I think I just answered my own question. Um. I’ll just lower my hand and sit down now.
BMW i3 REX (the one that adds a motorcycle engine in the trunk).
I think this is where Tesla is going with the Model 3. Want a cheap(er) Tesla? NO DASH FOR YOU.
I sold the world’s most reliable 335i (only 3 HPFP and two new turbos in 9 years!) for this very reason. Doom was imminent.
I really see plugin hybrid or Volt-like range extended EVs catching on for the next few years. Charge it at night st home, go 40 ish miles in the morning on electrons, rinse and repeat until the weekend road trip where the gas will get you 400 miles.
Cheap EVs are perfect second cars right now. I bought into the experiment about a year ago with a used Leaf, but I’m a gadget guy who loves thinking and planning before driving. Without a smart phone or Nav for planning even just a few errands it would be much much more stressfull.
I cross-shopped an e90 M3 DCT with a Nissan Leaf when replacing my E90 335i.
Starring in hoping that your words are true. (Likely going to buy the MDX SH-SH-AWD any way)
You just described 16 year old me. Bought a two year old one for less than half of sticker price and proceeded to do immature things with it. Great first car. Crank the nostalgia up to 11
Wobble charger! I had mine grenade after putting a smaller pulley on it. Actual shrapnel was lodged in the hood insulation
When optioned with the DC quick charge port it may, under ideal circumstances, charge to 80% in 30 minutes.
I think this meets and exceeds the Jalop Dad-of-Two*criteria I have for a three row:
Two friends drove these in high school when they were only a couple of years old. They did not age well. Something was always falling off or snapping off either the interior or exterior. The gearshift would pop off on your hand at the most inopportune time. Were all Saabs manual?? I feel like even all the 900s were…
Right in the dead front center in the Leaf is best for home charging. Nissan didn’t make me pick which side of the garage to park in!
I’ll watch only if there are standing starts! (Already watched my Daytona race for the year; all 24 hours of it)
You forgot the late 80s advancement shared between PCs and cars: the Turbo
The C5 corvette non-hatch is looking better proportioned to me every day. never though I’d say that
Why do I love this, and hate the modern “sport” of drifting? Me thinks I’ve become one of The Olds...
I was thinking the same thing: Why not give this the plug in hybrid platform of the Pacifica to compete with the Volvo XC-90? Seems like a win-win. Low end torque, quiet in-town luxury driving manners, enhance it for 4wheel drive if the market demands, and earns it some tech cred.
