In case anyone is wondering, stage IV throat cancer does NOT necessarily mean that his cancer has spread to other organs and can not be cured. Head and neck cancer staging is odd and anybody with lymph nodes involved have stage IV disease but are still curable with chemotherapy and radiation, like he got. I do not…

Stage IV means they did not catch it early at all and that shit had already spread. Which makes him even luckier than he managed to survive as the prognosis for ANY Stage IV cancer (throat especially) is usually not good.

I lost a few family members to cancer (every single one of them were smokers. Every one.) and I always cheer when someone is lucky enough to catch it early enough and survive. And he has a platform to help spread for early checkups and fundraising. Today is a good day.

That’s two positive stories on the first page of Deadspin at the same time, folks. Maybe not all is lost.

Pieces like this always make me wonder what cultural mediums I will look back on as the foundation of my tastes when I'm older.
