GT3/GT4/GT2 refer to racing series, and the cars are loosely based on the rules of those (now non-existent for the most part) classifications. So the GT2 is a top spec car. There was once a 911 GT1, for racing in GT1. It was obviously the most extreme (and only really made for homologation).
