I grew up in a middle class neighborhood that was mostly white. There was also a lot of abuse on that street. In general, there were three outcomes with reporting child abuse:

Even uglier it seems the state of SD has been using Native kids to make $ - SD classifies each Native foster kid as ‘special needs’ and because of that they get extra money from the feds for each kid. It’s grotesque. Flies right in the face of ICWA.

It’s actually how it works in many states, believe it or not. Rather than deal with chronic underfunding, the counties bill the parents for the costs of dealing with the situation, whatever it might be, on the rationale that it’s all their fault. Yet another way the system penalizes poor families.

My daughter was never removed from my home, but when she was four years old, I went to pick her up from pre-school and was handed a business card from a CPS worker and instructed to call. When I did, I was informed that they had sent someone out to the school to INTERVIEW my four year old because some “well-meaning”…
