The problem here is that you're equating fanboys (I use the term unisexually) and consumers. They're not one in the same.
I disagree with the video entirely. That doesn't mean I think fanboyism is a good thing. But all these extreme fan reactions aren't the reason that innovative and creative games are less likely to be made than the next Call of Duty. You know why sequels/knock-offs get made? Because of money.
