White person here, also from Missouri, where Krug is from, and also have worked in academic adjacent fields. I have to say, what I see in her situation is extreme white guilt run amok, enabled probably by a healthy amount of narcissism and shame in trying to disassociate herself from her Midwestern roots. This is hard

It’s fun when narcissists basically just expose themselves :)

Ha!

She was benefitting from his celebrity and reknown, and to acknowledge his transgressions would take that away from her.

No, I think what it means is that they don’t think that certain behaviors are problematic, which means they may engage in problematic behaviors themselves.  I find generally that bad people cover up for other bad people. The people who I’ve known who have stuck by abusive people are people who in some way have

Amazing!

If theories of trauma apply here, people often replicate things that have happened to them in the past.  Maybe Maxwell, in the privileged environment she grew up in, saw this happen or even was some sort of sex slave herself.  How else would she know so much about teaching girls to “serve” men?

Doesn’t it seem more like Munchausen-by-Proxy syndrome?  Like the mom who faked her daughters illnesses (Didn’t Erin Carr also make the doc about that case?) I wonder if she sees connections with Carter....

I LOVE THIS STORY!  Good for you!!!!

Be my best friend!

Oh my gosh! That’s a good Britney impression.

The thing that these narratives get wrong is that, for most rational, even liberal leaning people, trans identity does not automatically imbue someone with the capability to govern and lead. It is a descriptor of someone’s personal identity and exterior aesthetics, not evidence of their skills and capabilities. And

That’s Kim?  Whoa, I totally thought it was Lady Gaga.

It’s really ugly to realize that about someone whom you thought was your friend. I’ve been in a similar situation, and it’s imperative to get away from the people who may be secretly not on your side. Talk about toxic. Good for you for getting away.

Money and fame are probably the factors that keep people from seeking the help they need, because of the image of success they feel they have to maintain. The faulty thought process: You created a successful, billion dollar fashion line? You should be able to handle anything! Not true. Humans don’t have all the

I was lucky enough to see her perform this song live a couple of months ago at a show in Missouri — it was so beautiful and powerful! She’s amazing :)
