Oh yeah, the desk! I love the desk. I’ll take a slide-out desk over lane-keeping assist any day.

THIS. Imagine an alternate universe where AMC bought Chrysler instead of the other way around.

This is such a terrible decision with such long-ranging consequences. I’m not sure how many people know that gasoline had lead in it for years because GM and Standard Oil wanted an anti-knock compound that was patentable and wasn’t a fuel in its own right (i.e. ethanol). They knew it was poison from the beginning, but

1981 - Roger Smith named Chairman and CEO of General Motors.

Tetraethyl lead.

Henry Ford Sticking with the Model T and complete vertical Integration over bringing out new models, with more flexible manufacturing and almost putting the company out of business. Alfred P Sloan and GM handed Ford their ass in ‘27

Studebaker and Packard not merging with Hudson and Nash to be a big fourth American car maker.

GM letting Saab and Saturn wither on the vine, leading to their eventual death.

Generally the last 2 years, basically once Splinter got herbed, has been the slow slide into venture-capital mediocrity. Turns out grifters just skim and make money, the only content they care about is the fancy piece of junk they just bought from margin profits.

It’s amusing to see commenters decry the rise of “SJWs” and socialists as the fall of Jalopnik when many of the favored writers were driven out by venture capitalists, while slideshows and incessant pop-ups were instituted to increase ad revenue from the husk of the site.

Totally agree. I love my Fit. A Civic is too big. And I don’t live in a huge city.

Everybody here mocks the idea of a car as an appliance, but the Nissan Micra is an appliance in a good way. It just works. You want to go from A to B? Get in the car and turn the key and it just works. All the controls are where your hands expect them to be. It doesn’t make strange noises, it barely sips fuel, there’s

Must depend on where you live—I see this list around pretty regularly in Minnesota. I had a Fit and so did several co-workers. Another co-worker has a Mirage. That co-worker works two jobs while going to grad school, has a kid, and a pretty frugal lifestyle. He is kind of the target market for the Mirage despite being

And Reliants weren’t even *that* bad. Less stable than a 4 wheeler, definately, but Top Gear had to use a lot of tricks to get them to roll over on camera, they’re actually kind of hard to tip over in normal use when the driver isn’t acting like an idiot.

Three wheelers suffer from a perceived lack of stability, exacerbated in no small part by an enormous buffoon in a Reliant.

I hate to say the price pushes it into a difficult place for me. My heart yearns for this, but my wallet says “what are you thinking???”

Would people pay extra for it?

I am disappointed. My lease is up and I was looking to find a brand new car with a manual. I’m fine with my car now, but a manual would be fun. However no brand makes what I want in the US. I would like a new fast, very reliable, 4 door sedan in a manual that fits in my budget. No one makes that. I consider fast being

Sports cars aren’t just about speed and performance. The driving experience is far more important to me than number on paper. I want to feel connected with a car, and feel that a manual transmission is necessary to do so. My truck is automatic and I’m alright with that. The truck is an appliance, not a toy.
