American Iron, back when we all worked for a living. Beats going fast, in its own way.

@stephdumas: Wow! Interesting, I really had no idea. I wish Bob had read this!

For anyone who had a MKIV Golf/Jetta or Passat from that generation one of the most annoying engineering decisions is the 3 cent plastic window regulator.

@CRXPilot: Why does a big D company have to do this? Pagani isn't Fiat, after all.

@GåßëÊdwå®d§ - Jalopy Gopnik Hooligan: How is it not a wagon? Its big enough to shag in (I owned one for 5 years...) and big enough to drive cross country with a passenger, a dog and the small stuff from an apartment.

The prob is that Silicon valley has amazing weather, stunning scenery and the trillions of VC capital on Sand Hill road. Those factors make it hard for other places to compete to get the absolute best talent in related industries.

It might actually be more reliable than a stock 928... but still less reliable than one with a GM pushrod mill.

I had a crazy 2nd idea for an ultimate Cheapskate car, and I'm going to test drive one today to (maybe) put my money where my mouth is:

I've owned 3 wagons, 1 hatchback and 1 coupe...

a 1978-1993 Saab 900, preferably as a convertible.

You guys picked 3 baroque neoclassics and not one mega-buck, uber-douche SUV. What gives? I'm especially confused since you gave landau tops a category - shouldn't hideous neoclassics be their own? Do that and you coulda made space for at least the H2, if not the Escalade EXT.

@Jeb_Hoge: Yup, total fail without the H2.

@Royal Flush: may I join the party with one of these?

@Ramirez13: Its like it was holding up its hands asking, why?

Clearly any Hummer fits the bill, but a Geiger-tuned one might be the worst of them all.

The hipsters in Williamsburg must've popped dozens of PBRs watching this one.
