I’ve loved that, and her stoicism. The original lady in the original Shogun was quite good, but Anna Sawai is definitely better.

This entire show she’s done that!  And she definitely gives the best “you need to shut the fuck up” look while barely moving her face that I’ve ever seen.

I think Julia Garner could have made a fantastic Frankie Raye, a different herald of Galactus than the Silver Surfer. Forcing the actress into a different role - effectively deleting Norrin Radd from the MCU before he could get there - feels like an unforced error.

This was another wonderful episode. The show does a great job of foregrounding women, and the different ways they can exert influence in this particular patriarchy without lapsing into ahistoricism. Incredibly tense scenes between Mariko and Blackthorne at the brothel. I did wonder if the mention of ‘doomed lovers’ by…

I miss that discount Dean Wormer guy.

Every week I listen to Johnnie Walker’s Sounds of the Seventies on BBC Radio 2. Recently a listener sent in his story of meeting Townshend (and Paul Cook and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols) in a club in London.  Later that night the incident related in those lyrics occurred.

“Who Are You” can come across like a novelty song if you don’t pay attention to the lyrics and just focus on the chorus. The song is fantastic.

I listened to a lot of ‘oldies’ radio growing up in the 80s and didn’t know who the Spinners were but now I know they had about a billion hits. Great stuff.
