F1 isn’t minimalist it’s very complex. F1 cars in the past have already had closed fenders and I think if that’s the way to ultimate performance that’s the way they need to go. Esthetics should play a roll in designing a winning car.

The problem is there is no performance benefits to having an open cockpit. These cars used to be about nothing but performance even though lately they seem more like semi spec cars.
