Generational terms were always sloppy categories and (for that reason) not all that meaningful. It's always fun to attribute character traits to huge swaths of the population though :D

I agree. I always say (to myself), "You have to know the rules in order to break them". Which isn't literally true, but helps me remember not to get obsessed with rules for my visual art.

Yes! However, I will still wear the io9 logo one with gushing pride

Seriously, five years??? Are you kidding me??? I've been here since day 1 (maybe week or month 1), but pretty much from the beginning and love this site more every time I come. The posts were great from the beginning and have only gotten better. The science news posts are informative and/or original; I basically watch

It's your wedding. Do what you want. If you rely on moms though, people will buy gifts anyway with the thought that other people will regardless (although personally I wouldn't, but then again I don't do wedding or holiday gifts in the first place. My friends and relatives already know that about me).

I don't think it's selfish at all. Honestly, I think the gifts people expect for weddings is utterly insane. Not only that, but I remember when I learned what wedding 'registers' were. Like really? They're basically telling you what they want you to buy them.

That book sounds like it would make a great wedding gift :D

That's a great shot of the cast. They even have Walternate and Fauxlivia in the back as well as an observer reflection in there.

Well put.

Ack! Don't consign the phrase, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" to an anti-health care reform position! I love that phrase. Sometimes people DO try to fix things that are just fine while their energies could be better focused elsewhere :)

I don't know about Claire for Shehulk. She's a good actress and all, but I know she's 'short'. Not sure about full cg for Shehulk either. Maybe something more like was done with the Hobbits.

I think this is a real, working helmut in this shot...

I usually agree with Charlie, but some of the choices here are questionable (on the best list). Honestly, Looper at 4th best? It had a neat ending, but that creepy makeup just was such a distraction.

What an adorable article Annalee. Btw, heard you on NPR the other day, I was like OMG!!! I listen to NPR daily and read i09 pretty regularly, and listen to NPR through my computer. So it was like all of a sudden you leaped out of my comp into my kitchen :D

I took a good photo....once.

I remember putting it on and having sex with my girlfriend in high school. Ugh, in like '88, 89 *cry*

As if I could lover her anymore....then she goes and does this :D

This might have been asked before (and forgive me if there's an answer somewhere) but is there a way to get a permalink to your "what to watch" feature?

There's some neat things going on there, but it seems like a lotta work for what amounts to about a 5th grader's understanding of evolution. Not to mention about a 2nd grader's take on human history.

All I want is close tab in the context menu and I haven't been able to find an extension that replicates it.
