I wonder if the episode of House with Mos Def (can't remember his "new" name, sorry) was based off this research.
Neverwhere.
Though I am not at work, that last few sentences made me tear up too. You are not alone.
Or, you know, eleven regular miles...
I agree. I simply think that every one of us have an advantage others do not—so if we begin with this, how far will it go?
Oh, I wasn't saying YOU were saying that, but the IAAF is basically saying this. And I still feel it's a bit bullshit—we all of us are genetically dissimilar, and deciding who can or cannot compete on a genetic basis is the penultimate of prejudice and discrimination.
This one made me laugh quite heartily, and is probably the best comment I've read all month:
Hey now—just like any group of people, you can't judge the whole from the loudest and most obnoxious.
Shit, they aren't my ancestors. Honestly, of the people that have that "privilege" that's been so contentious, the people who actually do have an unfair advantage, very, very many are the people who can trace their lineage back to the colonies.
The sad thing is I would happily play the game you're describing.
Telling this person she must undergo surgery to "correct" a disadvantage is the same as telling a runner with longer legs they must have their legs shortened before competing. It's discrimination based on genetics, pure and simple.
Yes: seem. You can suspect all you like, that's perfectly fine. But like hearsay without evidence, we can't know something is sexist outside of its context.
Yes, combat boots. My wife is goth. Trust me, there are people that find combat boots as sexy as stripper heels.
Thank you for the link!
Old as sin post, I'll admit—but they're up to 14,609 songs now.
Pretty much. I think it involves her number, or something.
Damn, that is one trippy song and vid. I don't even like that style of music, but I dug that.
