I’m glad you brought that up! Not a lot of people realize just how much of the opposition to disco was rooted in homophobia, racism and misogyny. Rock jocks just couldn’t bear the thought of diverse crowds dancing all night and having fun, so they turned to ridicule and hatred. (Disco Demolition Night? Come on.)

There was no real “advantage” to it. It was simply a kludge in an attempt to get around some of the racing rules at the time.
