Oops, stupid gerbils.
I want a Karmann Ghia based on a TT.
I want a Karmann Ghia convertible based on a TT.
This is what "eco-driving" has done for me:
@tekamul: Are you going direct to car listings by the url? I used to go straight to http : //washingtondc.craigslist.org/car/, and noticed no new listings. Turns out the URL changed, it's now http: //washingtondc.craigslist.org/cta/.
If you drive a PT 5-speed carefully, you can get 30 mpg in combined driving. It's not a great car, but for about $7,000 for an '05 with 30K miles that's quiet and well equipped, it's the perfect replacement for my underutilized Explorer.
They need to offer the smooth body color steel wheels with baby moons (this car is ugly but you get the idea):
In between multiple cargasms, I kept thinking about how realistic Gran Turismo is. I feel like I know that track.
@Tachman: "@Joe_Bloe: When traveling with heavy traffic, I try to maintain the same general speed as everyone else." But that's my point. Everyone else is going 70. I don't want to go 70. I want to go 55, and stay out of everyone's way. But so many people act like they're having to take emergency evasive…
@astraelraen: Do you have data to back that up? Because I've seen data that says otherwise. I can dig it up if you'd like to see it.
OK, everyone, here's my problem: I WANT to go 55. I commute the DC beltway every day, and I'm getting 38 mpg in my bucket ('94 escort) by driving slower. But I get really nervous going that slow. I get all kinds of assholes, people on phones, big trucks, parents smacking their kids, rolling up on my back bumper…
@ceejeemcbeegee: Yogurt Earl's current greasemonkey script to thread comments works fine:
@Solo_Racer: heh heh, i see what you did there... clever.
@combat chuck: but wait, this was bracket racing, right? 6-banger slushbox probably would have won it!
And for all the pre-OBDII drivers who would like something similar, the nerds over on EcoModder.com are developing a DIY kit embedded computer that does fuel economy functions based on timing the length of fuel injector pulses.
@gt2: Yes! Joey Porsche FTW!
I just picked up a '94 Escort wagon with 95K and 5-speed for a grand. I'm getting 34 mpg in mostly city commuting. Not a refined ride by any stretch, but a damn useful little car.
I vote this as teh best wagon on Jalopnik, now and evermore.
@tenbeers: I am a 500-lb bomb, you insensitive clod!
