I inherited my mom’s vintage Settlement Cookbook, published in the early 1900s. All the vegetables were boiled until soggy; there is so much lard. Heck, even just look at the diets you see from 1950s. The idea that everyone was gobbling up healthy and nutritious meals back in the mid-1800s is just idealization of the

Maybe it wasn't pernicious anemia, but merely cranky anemia.

Some of the things that survive from the late 19th century are cookbooks for the middle class, restaurant menus from places that served the upper middle class, and memoirs from private cooks employed by the upper class (and the White House.) The higher you went the more you ate, but it wasn’t a healthier diet by any

No, none of that. A wealthy person in the 1800s had less access to nutritious food compared to a person of similar status now. In fact, we now have a lot of vitamin-enriched foods (like milk with vitamin D and bread with folic acid) compared to the 1800s. Their food wasn’t more nutritious at all. Also, our present day

While the number may be accurate (it appears to be a little high), it presents a very skewed picture. That median income includes families, couples, and individuals. Obviously, an individual making $76,000 is living a much better life than a family of 5.

You’re really trying to say that a single person earning $130K in Toronto still isn’t much? Compared to what exactly?

$130K isn’t that much? What fucking planet do you live on?

Except it really is compared to what the average Canadian/Canadian household makes.

130k isn’t that much? *kills self*

“ $130k isn’t that much.” Well at first I hated the guy in the story. Now I hate you.

$130K is a pretty decent salary, even when you account for that being in Canadian dollars (so it’s really only $100K in real money). But I’m sure sponging off of one’s frugal parents does give you more spending money. Of course, he also thinks tiny sirloins are baller, so he’s clearly a moron.

If you are single and childless, $130,000 (US) is more than enough money a year to spend all your vacation time globe trotting. That’s more money than most middle class families of 4 or 5 make per year.

Go slap 130k into any website that spits out your position in the income distribution of your country of choice and then come back again and tell us how 130k isn’t that much money.

$130k isn’t that much.

No one I know lets their kids under 12 watch live tv with significant ads other than sports. They just stream stuff or watch PBS kids. I don’t imagine there is much money to be made in that market.

Too much of a good thing.

Yea. The writing here has really gone down the shitter. Sorry to say it. I used to love this site. Not sure why I even check at all anymore. Maybe, I'm just hoping things get better one day.

Yea... Daggers ARE weapons. It's like asking "What's the point of an airplane designed to fly faster"?
